Hillsdale climate task force seeking members

Aug 24, 2016 7:15 am

The Hillsdale Town Board, Conservation Advisory Council and Green Solutions Committee are seeking members for the Hillsdale Climate Smart Task Force. In June, the board declared Hillsdale a Climate Smart Community, pledging to take steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the effects of climate change. Hillsdale is one of seven Columbia County communities participating in the state program. Town Supervisor Peter Cipkowski described it as a “blueprint on how towns can reduce their carbon footprint.” Participants are eligible to apply to a pool of $2 million dollars in grant funding to implement initiatives that reduce reliance on fossil fuels. To serve on the task force, applicants must reside in Hillsdale and have a strong interest in addressing the challenges created by climate change as they occur locally. Letters of interest should be submitted to Cipkowski at P.O. Box 305, Hillsdale 12529.
