Tops Markets said to be considering Chapter 11

Erick Anderson is reporting in the Times Union Bloomberg News reported over the weekend that Tops Friendly Markets, which operates stores in much of upstate New York and western Vermont, may file for bankruptcy reorganization by the end of the month. Locally, Tops operates stores in Coxsackie, Greenville, Rhinebeck, and Tannersville. The store’s home base is located in Williamsville, near Buffalo, and employs approximately 14,000 people. Tops was purchased in 2007 by Morgan Stanley Private Equity for $310 million and grew from 71 stores to more than 150 by 2013. Read the full story in the Times Union.
