Astorino chooses Chemung sheriff as running mate

Casey Seiler is reporting at Capitol Confidential Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino has chosen Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss as his running mate. The choice was made following “an exhaustive statewide search,” Astorino said in a video announcement released late Tues., May 13. The state Republican convention begins Wednesday in Westchester County. Moss is the president of the state Sheriffs Association and a board member of the state Association of Counties. He will address the convention, Thurs., May 15. Moss holds a master's degree in public administration from Marist College. He was among a group of sheriffs who took part in an April 2013 meeting with Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in which, according to Moss and other participants, Cuomo advised the sheriffs to keep their criticisms of the SAFE Act gun control law to themselves.
