New York changes Common Core name

Bethany Bump reports in Capitol Confidential that New York education officials are changing the name of the Common Core learning standards to the Next Generation Learning Standards. The Common Core State Standards began in 2011, with most states in the nation agreeing to the change for more rigorous standards. But the Common Core name is now a political weapon, and instead of changing an unpopular program much, New York is changing the name. "Officials estimate that 60 percent of the original Common Core English standards and 55 percent of the math standards have been changed," since 2011, Bump writes.
