Cohoes mayor facing pressure following allegations of domestic abuse
Wendy Liberatore and Lauren Stanforth are reporting in the Times Union Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse is facing increased calls for his resignation after a Times Union story December 10 detailed allegations of domestic abuse against him going back decades. 'These are disturbing revelations from the [Times Union] about a history of domestic violence and unacceptable behavior not becoming of the title 'Honorable' from an elected official," state Assembly member Patricia Fahy wrote on Twitter. The Albany County Democratic Committee issued a statement , saying if the allegations were found to be true, the mayor should resign. Committee Chairman Jack Flynn that Morse and his alleged actions against women will likely be the subject of an investigation by the party's ethics committee. The Times Union reported domestic abuse allegations involving Morse going back more than two decades. They included an incident in the mid-1990s when a woman he dated for several years called police and said Morse had grabbed her by the neck and lifted her off the ground during an argument at her apartment. The State Police are currently investigating an incident on the morning of Nov. 10 when Morse's wife, Brenda, called 911 and told a dispatcher that her husband "grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground." Morris is an influential Democrat, having previously served as the chairman of the Albany County Legislature. Read the full story in the Times Union.
