CNBC reported that March 12 ended for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo with Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand calling on him to resign, joining a loud chorus of others. Cuomo faces at least six allegations of sexual harassment or assault, and is being blamed for excessive nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, and rushing a bridge to completion for an election. On March 12 almost every New York Congressional representative, including Antonio Delgado and Paul Tonko, called for Cuomo's resignation. Local Assemblymember Didi Barrett, who represents Columbia and Dutchess counties, and President Joe Biden, are about the only notable figures not calling on Cuomo's resignation. On March 12, White House press secretary Jen Psaki declined to say whether Biden believes Cuomo should resign. Instead she said every woman who has come forth “deserves to have her voice heard, should be treated with respect and should be able to tell her story.” On Feb. 28 Barrett Tweeted about how Cuomo should face an independent investigation, but has been silent on the issue since.
