Potential Lopez run against Tkaczyk up in the air

Jordan Carleo-Evangelist is reporting at Capitol Confidential Assemblyman Pete Lopez has acknowledged folks are talking to him about a potential state Senate run in the 46th Senate District against first-term Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk (KAT-chik). Lopez told the blog last week, “I understand that people are talking about me, but no one is talking directly to me at this time.” The seat covers all or parts of Ulster, Greene, Albany, Schnectady and Montgomery counties. Districtwide, Democrats outnumber Republicans by about 10,000, with some 53,500 independents. One potential snag is that Lopez still lives in the village of Schoharie, which is not part of the Senate district. Under the state constitution, Lopez would need to live the district for at least 12 months immediately prior to his election, which would mean moving in the next several weeks.
