The Mountain Top Arboretum, in Tannersville, is acquiring 156 acres adjoining its existing 23 acres of nature preserve through a conservation easement with the Department of Environmental Protection of the City of New York. The Friday "WGXC Afternoon Show" will feature Joan Kutcher, the Executive Director of the Mountain Top Arboretum, at 4:15 p.m. Host Tom Roe will also ask how the arboretum weathered the storms. From their website: "It was a relief to walk through the Arboretum grounds after Hurricane Irene and see very little damage. With no pretense of seeing this coming, in the past three years the arboretum has created a Rain Garden, put a footbridge over the stream at the end of the pond, built a boardwalk across the East Meadow wetland, and improved the drainage around the Pump House. Water demands respect, and more projects are underway to plant and landscape based on what Mother Nature is telling us."
