Cuomo's poll numbers take a dive
Brendan J. Lyons is reporting at Capitol Confidential Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's favorability, job performance and re-elect ratings fell by double digits in February, according to a new Siena College poll of registered voters. The governor's favorability rating fell from 62 percent in January to 53 percent in February, at the same time his job performance rating dropped from 50 to 45 percent. “He’s down with Democrats, more with Republicans, and even more with independents. In all three measures, Cuomo is down with voters in New York City, down big upstate and essentially unchanged in the downstate suburbs. The drop was much bigger with men than with women,” said Siena Research Institute pollster Steven Greenberg. The voters polled expressed little change in how they view the Legislature. The decline for Cuomo comes as he has been prominently mentioned in a federal corruption and bribery trial targeting his former top aide, Joseph Percoco. In response, Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi released a statement shrugging off the change in the governor’s numbers as a normal fluctuation driven by national trends.
