New York senators contemplate impeachment

Dan Freedman reports in the Times Union that the House of Representatives may be finished with witness testimony and heading towards a vote on impeachment, and New York's senators have spokespeople busy answering questions on the subject. Chuck Schumer has voted against impeaching a president before. “In 1998, then-Rep. Schumer expressed his opinion on the decision only after the full evidence of the (Independent Counsel Kenneth) Starr investigation had concluded and been made public,” said spokesperson Allison Biasotti. “Sen. Schumer believed then, and still believes now, that all of the facts must come out and then a decision can be made — in stark contrast to Senate Republicans who are jumping to conclusions and trying to impede this important fact-finding mission from moving forward.” New York's other senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, has been a bit more direct in her feelings about impeachment. “She is extremely troubled by what she’s heard so far, and should the House vote for impeachment, she will consider the evidence marshaled by the House to make a fair and dispassionate judgement on whether or not to convict the president,” said her spokesperson Rocio Cruz.
