Gillibrand backs federal medical marijuana

The Associated Press reports in the Albany Times-Union that New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (JILL'-uh-brand) joined Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky and Democrat Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey Tue., March 10 introducing a bill to remove federal prohibitions on medical marijuana. The bill would apply to states, such as New York, where it is already legal. Currently, 23 states and the District of Columbia allow medical marijuana. The U.S. House already has pending legislation for a similar bill. Republican Paul has presidential aspirations, and Gillibrand and Booker come from states with governor's reluctant to allow medical marijuana. Read the full story in the Albany Times-Union.
