Regional Economic Development Council awards announced

Rick Karlin and Michael Williams are reporting for the Times Union Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul December 19, announced the 2019 Regional Economic Development Awards at the Albany Capital Center. In total, the Capitol Region, which includes Greene and Columbia counties, received $84.1 million to support 120 projects. A total of just under $4.7 million was awarded to projects in Greene County. The Catskill Gateway project received $608,000 to support the construction and/or renovation of a 25-room select service hotel in the village of Catskill. Flach Development & Realty received two awards, for a total of $2 million, for the creation of a 13,000-square-foot event venue and 20,000-square-foot hotel on the waterfront in downtown Coxsackie. And the Village of Tannersville will receive $1.3 million to implement the Gooseberry Creek Waterfront Strategy by developing a trail along Saw Mill Creek connecting Main Street to Rip Van Winkle Lake and creating recreational amenities at Gooseberry Park. Approximately $5.3 million was awarded to Columbia County. Big winners included the Shaker Museum and Library, which will receive $1.6 million for the renovation of a historic building in Chatham into a museum facility to house the New Shaker Museum for Columbia County, providing places for a library and object collection and exhibition space. Basilica Industries was awarded $950,000 for renovation of its existing event facility to improve its efficiency to make it usable year-round. The city of Hudson will receive $750,000 for improvements to its wastewater collection system; and, $17,500 to fund a parking improvement feasibility study.
