Humane society honors long-time volunteer, Bank of Greene County

Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Claverack resident Marcia Sullivan and the Bank of Greene County have received the 2020 Bilinski Award for their work with and support of animals by the Columbia-Greene Humane Society. Sullivan was honored for her long-time work as a volunteer at the Greenport shelter, an adoptive mother to countless shelter animals with special needs and organizer for numerous fundraisers to benefit the humane society, said Ron Perez, president and CEO of the Columbia-Greene Humane Society. The Bank of Greene County was acknowledged for its ardent philanthropic support provided through the bank’s foundation and assistance with the Paycheck Protection Program, Perez said. The Bilinski is the highest award bestowed on a person, business or organization whose passion and commitment to the well-being of all animals is embodied by their generosity and devotion, as demonstrated by Dr. Jerry Bilinski, Perez said. The first award was given to Dr. Jerry Bilinski during the shelter’s “Paws Picnic” fundraiser in August 2010, and is presented annually in recognition of the doctor’s devotion to helping all animals and more than 30 years of commitment to and support of the shelter.
