Canaan is latest local town to reduce public access to meetings
Peter Fierl reports in the Columbia Paper that the Town of Canaan, in Columbia County, is the latest local municipality to reduce public access to its meetings. On May 10 the board had their first meeting where the public could not watch on the internet. The full board and three local residents, all wearing masks, attended the meeting in person. A few weeks ago the village of Philmont refusied to continue to webcasting their meetings and allow community members to monitor their actions from home. In 2021, there is little or no cost to put local meetings on a webstream for citizens to see. The City of Hudson and the Town of Catskill, for instance, stream their meetings for free on the WGXC website. Read more about this story in the Columbia Paper.
