National Poetry Month was initiated in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. Since then it has become arguably the largest literary celebration in the world, a reminder of poetry's vital place in our culture. Pacifica Radio Network reached out to community radio stations within the Pacifica network, asking for poetry they had recorded and aired locally. This episode of Sprouts presents a sampling of the poetry that was sent to us, and features works by Deb Lewis, Brett Brinkmeyer, Craig Sipe, Sonia Sanchez, Kate Barnes, Grace Cavalieri, and Tracy K. Smith.
