CGCC having computer issues, may have been hacked
Natasha Vaughn is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Columbia-Greene Community College is working through some computer issues that may be related to hacking. College President Carlee Drummer said on February 25 the cause of the technical issues is unclear at this time. “We have an investigation going on now even as we speak to assess what the causes are,” Drummer said. The problems shut down the school’s computer servers and caused the school’s website to go down for a couple of days, Students could not directly access classes, school emails or the web-based course management system Blackboard through the school’s website, but could gain access using a direct link. Drummer said. About 90 percent of the servers are now running and the website has been restored, she said. The computer issues were discovered a week ago and the college has been working to resolve them since that time. The college is working with some outside consultants to investigate what occurred. Drummer declined to identify the consultants. It is unknown if any confidential or personal information was compromised or breached because it is still too early to tell, she said.
