'Atypical Illness Levels' rising in Hudson Valley
Mar 19, 2020 1:07 pm
Oregon State University's map tracking illness in the United States has gotten much attention the past few days. The map gathers the Kinsa’s network of Smart Thermometers temperature readings to track where people are getting fevers across the country. The map does not track coronavirus, but where people have high body temperatures, which might have a correlation. Right now it shows "Observed Illness Levels" are moderate throughout the Hudson Valley. But "Atypical Illness Levels" seem to be rising locally. "Atypical Illness Levels" are "The amount of unexpected illness in this area, expressed as additional share of the population affected by influenza-like-illness, above the expected values." Hudson Valley counties all have numbers "above expected" right now, except for Greene County, where there is "insufficient data." Greene County officials have provided little information to the media about their efforts, or any local information about COVID-19.
