Hundreds of people marched from both the Catskill and Hudson sides of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, and met in the middle, in the latest local protest over police racial injustice on June 20. Justice Brantley, 18, was one of the organizers, and explained to WGXC's Neva Wartell why it was important that the two cities on either side of the Hudson River joined together for this protest. The Schooner Apollonia sailed in the Hudson River beneath the protest, waving a Black Lives Matter banner, and setting off for another demonstration June 21 in Albany with the Sloop Clearwater. After a few brief speeches and a few flashes of lightning that delayed the start, protesters on both sides of the Hudson River stepped on the pedestrian walkway of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, and met in the middle.
