Chatham schools boast a 40-gig backbone and two new board members

Peter Flierl is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Chatham Board of Education swore in its newest members at its October 23 meeting. Carol Wilber and Matthew Fisch were welcomed by Superintendent Dr. Salvatore DeAngelo. Also at the month’s meeting Giles Felton, senior network engineer, reported on the district’s technology development with a slide presentation that illustrated the system in the school and administrative buildings. He said the system has a relatively high speed interconnection, including what he called a 40-gig backbone, and is being built with future growth in mind to ensure 21st century smart schools. A system upgrade estimated to cost nearly $518,000 was completed for a little more than $176,000 due in part to having done business that helped give Carousel Technologies, a national technology services company, its start.
