Lorna Cherot Littleway is reporting for The Columbia Paper at the Hillsdale Town Board meeting June 9, town Supervisor Peter Cipkowski announced a change in protocol governing speed limit change requests. That change now requires that requests go to the county engineer before the state Department of Transportation gets involved. As a result, the board voted again on previously passed resolutions requesting speed limit changes on town roads within the hamlet perimeter. The board unanimously approved requests for a reduced speed limit to 25 mph on sections of Old Town, Cold Water and Maple and all of Poole Hill and Anthony Extension. The board also approved a reduced speed limit request to 35 mph on Wolfe Hill and to 30 mph on Mitchell Street. Board member Robina Ward said the town would be charged $1,000 per road speed change request. Cipkowski corrected her, saying there is no charge unless towns decide to conduct their own study on their own time. In related news, in the absence of Highway Superintendent Richard Briggs, Ward reported on a recent meeting concerning structural changes to Phudd and Whippoorwill roads and Maple Street. She said the Phudd Road project would be the most costly, but would benefit the town by “eliminating a sharp right turn.” Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
