Hudson schools looking to create capital reserve fund

Apr 13, 2020 3:45 pm
Jeanette Wolfberg is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Hudson City School District intends to include a referendum that would greenlight a capital reserve fund as part of the upcoming school budget vote and board election. The capital reserve fund — dubbed the Renovation, Reconstruction, and Improvement of District Buildings and Reserve Fund — would set aside money “for the purpose of paying all or a part of the cost of renovation, construction, and improvements to the district’s buildings and facilities, including athletic facilities and fields.” The fund allow the district to make up the difference between project costs and how much the state provides in building aid. It would hold up to $5 million and remain available for 10 years. After the fund is established and the money is allocated, the district will need voter approval to spend any of it. The final draft of the district's 2020-21 spending is still pending. "[U]nfortunately, because of what’s going on and all the changes, the numbers are not finalized yet,” said Jesse Boehme, district business administrator. The annual school budget vote and board election has been postponed until at least June 1. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
