Durham hears public comments Tuesday about new solar law

Sep 03, 2018 12:33 am
Audrey Matott reports in the Greenville Pioneer that the town of Durham has drafted a proposed solar law to regulate solar energy in the Greene County town. Durham will host a public hearing about the proposed law at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 4 at the Durham Town Hall. There are four different tiers of solar systems in the proposal. Two tiers are for small home systems with a “capacity up to 25 kW AC and that generate no more than 110 percent of the electricity consumed on the site over the previous 12 months.” The other tiers regulate systems between 25 kW and 25 MW, and don't allow systems bigger than 25 MW. “The Public Service Commission can make a determination that there is an unreasonable and super impact to a municipality,” said Tal Rappleyea, the town's lawyer. Several solar farms have been discussed for many Greene County towns including Durham. The solar proposal is on the town's website at durhamny.com. Read the full story in the Greenville Pioneer.
