DOL reminds the unemployed to certify

Michelle Breidenbach is reporting for Syracuse [dot] com tens of thousands of New Yorkers whose unemployment insurance applications have been approved, but not paid out, may have missed one important step. Claimants need to go back online or call to certify each week they are unemployed, according to the state Department of Labor. The department emailed 90,000 people over the weekend to remind them to certify. The certification process applies to people who receive both traditional unemployment insurance and the new pandemic unemployment insurance. The certification confirms the person was unemployed for all or part of the past week and is willing and able to work. During the pandemic, the department advises people who cannot work because of the pandemic and the shutdown orders to answer that they were ready, willing and able to work if they otherwise could have worked.
