Occupy Albany to return for May Day

As reported by Jordan Carleo-Evangelist in the Times Union, Occupy Albany will return to Academy Park, Tues., May 1, for the first time since the city uprooted the group's encampment in December. Police Chief Steven Krokoff told the paper he does not expect tension between police and the group, at the same time he noted the police will impose the court order banning the establishment of a new encampment and enforcment of the park's 11 p.m. curfew. The event Tuesday was planned in conjunction with similar demonstrations nationwide coinciding with May Day, the celebration of workers around the world. District Attorney David Soares said he will abide by a previously established peaceful coexistence policy, and has no plans to prosecute protesters exercising their free-speech rights.
