Hudson talks sidewalk repair

Oct 13, 2018 12:21 am
Amanda Purcell reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Hudson representatives on the Common Council are surveying sidewalks that need repair, and considering a new snow removal policy. Second Ward Alderperson Tiffany Garriga is calling a census of the worst sidewalk situations in the city. Right now the city has $60,000 set aside in the draft 2019 budget for sidewalk repairs. Mayor Rick Rector explained that property owners must pay for the sidewalk work. “If a property owner is cited by the city to repair a sidewalk and it is not done, the city would either repair it or contract the work out and the associated cost would be put on the property owner’s taxes,” he said. Fifth Ward Alderperson Dominic Merante suggested the city do the same, as Catskill does, for clearing snow off sidewalks in the winter. Catskill Village bills property owners for snow removal, and if the bill is not paid, it gets added to the property owner’s taxes. Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
