Hudson's Promenade Park renovation gets underway

May 10, 2021 5:45 am

Aliya Schneider is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the $1.8 million renovation of Promenade Hill Park in Hudson is beginning. A. Colarusso and Son, Inc. is in charge of construction. The park will get an American with Disabilities Act walkway to the promenade. The renovation will bring a new look to the park's lower plaza with open lawn areas and trees. The play area will also include a spray shower. The park improvements were allocated $1.1 million from the city’s 2017 $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant. The project is also receiving $650,000 in support from the H. van Ameringen Foundation and $100,000 from the Colarusso family. The H. van Ameringen Foundation gift was made in honor of Galvan Foundation co-founder and president T. Eric Galloway’s husband, Henry van Ameringen, who died in September. The donations were made after the city’s project budget fell short. The project is expected to be completed by late January 2022. The design was presented to and approved by the Historic Preservation Commission in January 2021. The plans were also presented to the Common Council in October 2020 and April 2021. The city broke ground on the park in March. Mayor Kamal Johnson said in a statement at the time, “We need to ensure more people can access our public parks. Residents have been demanding park improvements for years and it’s great to be moving forward on this. I appreciate everyone who has contributed to this project.” Note: Johnson is a volunteer WGXC on-air programmer. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
