Jun 09, 2020 6:00 am
Sophie Grosserode is reporting for the Rockland/Westchester Journal News the state Board of Regents June 8, announced it will hold four regional meetings in June, all virtual, to discuss what it will take to reopen schools in the fall. The Regents will use the feedback received at the meetings to develop guidelines for reopening. The guidelines will be unveiled during the next Regents meeting on July 13. The regional meetings will bring together teachers, administrators, school board members, parents and experts. Each group will be considered a regional task force. The identity of participants will be listed on the state Education Department's website prior to the meetings. The meetings will not be visible to the public. The groups are each expected to provide input on health and safety, teaching, the social-emotional needs of students, special education, bilingual education, digital equity, fiscal issues, transportation/facilities/nutrition, and staffing. It is not clear what will happen once the Regents have developed their guidelines. The counties located in the Hudson Valley, including Columbia, Dutchess, Greene and Ulster, will participate in the Region 3 meeting on June 22. Read the full story in the Poughkeepsie Journal.
