Teachout defends liberal record

Chris Bragg reports in the Albany Times Union that Zephyr Teachout is running as a liberal in the four-way Democratic primary election for attorney general. Teachout ran well, but lost, in a primary for governor against Andrew Cuomo in 2014, and then lost by eight points to John Faso in the 2016 19th Congressional District election. The Fordham Law professor said, “Bernie Sanders had a rally in our district.... I was unabashedly progressive in that race – and Republicans had a lot of fun trying to beat me up about that. I was an early and strong supporter, standing hand-in-hand, with Sen. Sanders.” Bragg points out Teachout's campaign was more conservative against Faso, then against Cuomo, or in this year's attorney general primary. She the Oneonta Daily Star in 2016 that she was for comprehensive immigration reform that included increased border security and “providing border patrols the tools they need to be effective.” This summer, Teachout has called for the abolition of the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
