MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan delivered his first State of the County address January 30, at Kingston High School, his alma mater. Much of the address was focused on the younger residents of the county, their needs and if they will be able to remain in the region during their prime working years. “I think investing in the next generation not only benefits them but also benefits every single person in the county. If we were going to build on the momentum we have, it will be powered by the next generation,” he said. “Maybe part of it is because I think I am the youngest county executive in the state, so that is, I think, what is guiding the focus on young people as well.” Among the youth-oriented initiatives announced: a tuition assistance program at SUNY Ulster for those training for green and renewable energy jobs; programs that allow youth to work with senior citizens, provide an introduction to the fire service and engage with nonprofits as volunteers. Ryan also proposed a plan that would help young people and adults find employment in the arts or green, agricultural or tech sectors. He also intends to find ways to improve the economy in the Ellenville and Wawarsing area in the coming year. Read the full story at MidHudsonNews [dot] com.
