State Farm Bureau predicting more affordable Thanksgiving dinner this year

Nov 21, 2019 1:00 pm
The Times Union is reporting the New York Farm Bureau is predicting the average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings will cost 15 percent less this year than last. The bureau's 2019 Market Basket Survey is projecting the average price of the meal, including a 16-lb. turkey, to be $48.73, down from $57.54 last year. The cost difference is largely due to turkey prices that have decreased by 31 percent. “It is good news for consumers that this year’s dinner is more affordable than last Thanksgiving. Farmers have faced a difficult year with low commodity prices, weather challenges and trade disruptions, but because of their tenacity and hard work, Americans can still enjoy a nutritious dinner on their tables," said Phyllis Couture, Chair of New York Farm Bureau’s Promotion and Education Committee.
