Skelos and son surrender to federal authorities

The Times Union is reporting a six-count complaint filed Mon., May 4, against Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam Skelos charges them with extortion, accepting bribes and honest services fraud. Skelos and his son surrendered at the FBI offices in Manhattan, Monday afternoon. The 43-page complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, charges that the father and son worked together to monetize the elder Skelos' political power. In a statement the Dean Skelos insisted he was "innocent of the charges leveled against me." Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins described the charges as "deeply disturbing."
