State Senate passes 'Erin's Law'

David Lombardo is reporting for Capitol Confidential the state Senate June 3, unanimously approved Erin’s Law, legislation that would mandate that schools in grades K-8 spend at least one hour a year teaching students the difference between “good touch” and “bad touch” to empower students to recognize sexual abuse. State Assemblymember Catalina Cruz, a Queens Democrat, who is an abuse survivor, has said the measure could have changed her life. Gary Greenberg, an abuse survivor turned advocate, has called on Assembly Education Committee Chair Michael Benedetto to bring the measure to a vote in his committee.
