Chris Gibson (R-Kinderhook) didn’t rule out a run for statewide office in a Dec. 10 radio interview. “That’s not something I’m planning on,” the 19th Congressional District representative told Fred Dicker of a run for governor on “Live from the State Capitol!” “But you never know. (We’ll) take it one day at a time here and focus on our service.” He said he was "disappointed" in Rob Astorino’s loss in the governor's race, noting that the counties he represents choose the Republican over Andrew Cuomo. Gibson said he was outspent against Democrat Sean Eldridge in a district that Barack Obama won by six points in 2012 by appealing to independents and Democrats. “From a political science perspective, this race was absolutely an aberration,” Gibson said. “From a textbook standpoint, when you look at a district that is one of three in the country that Charlie Cook (of the Cook Political Report) describes as a Democratic seat held by a Republican, and then you factor in the money, when you put those two forward, political scientists would tell you, ‘Well this one is not going to go for the Republican. The Democrat is going to win.’” Read the full story in Capitol Confidential.
