Lorna Cherot Littleway is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Hillsdale Town Board will hold a special meeting Tue., Aug. 25, to appoint a new interim town supervisor. Former town supervisor Peter Cipkowski resigned last month and on August 11, the board voted to appoint town board member Robina Ward to serve as interim supervisor through the end of 2020 and Ward vacated her seat on the board. However, the vote to name her interim supervisor was subsequently determined to be invalid by the town attorney. So Ward resigned as interim supervisor and asked that her resignation from the board be withdrawn. Acknowledging the circumstances, Town Clerk Kathi Doolan consented to Ward’s request to withdraw her resignation as a board member, citing the short period of time that had passed. Meanwhile, the Hillsdale Democratic Committee nominated Chris Kersten, a former town judge and chair of the HDC, to run on the Democratic Party line in November. The following day, Ward announced her intention to run for the seat on an independent line, the Hillsdale Unity Party. The Republican Party is not fielding a candidate for town supervisor. This will be Ward’s second run for supervisor. She ran against Cipkowski in 2019 as a write-in candidate, losing by a large margin. It is unclear what will happen Tuesday night.
