Residents ask Catskill officials to repair spillway

Kemble reports in the Daily Freeman the Catskill Town Board has been told by residents a spillway damaged by Tropical Storm Irene has led to a five-foot drop in the water level at Bari Lake near Cairo Junction Road and has been asked to fix the problem. Residents said the spillway breached and allowed the lake to drain at an accelerated rate. One resident said, “The concrete collapsed and there’s a big hole the size of my living room in there. It started going down pretty much over night and continues to be eroding.” Town officials said they have been unable to determine who owns the property where the spillway is eroding.
