Greene Co. to refurbish transfer stations
Dec 17, 2018 8:00 am
Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Greene County officials approved a resolution Dec. 10 to renovate three transfer stations in Greene County. The approved resolution awards a $164,000 contract to engineering firm Barton and Loguidice [Low-JUE-diss] to redesign the Hunter and Coxsackie transfer stations, and a new scale house for the Catskill station. “We’re looking to increase efficiency and reduce costs,” Greene County Highway Superintendent Robert Van Valkenburg said, adding that the project has been a topic of discussion for the past year. Following the redesign the Hunter and Coxsackie stations will be capable of doing their own shipping. “Everything has to be handled twice,” New Baltimore representative, Republican Patrick Linger said, referring to the current system. Linger is the chairman of the legislature’s Public Works Committee. “We would be saving on transportation costs by shipping out of Coxsackie, Hunter and Catskill.” The design work will happen over the winter months, with the plan to put the construction work out to bid in the spring, Van Valkenburg said. Greene County produced 62,000 tons of waste between January and November, 2018, Van Valkenburg said. “It was 10,358 tons when I started,” he added. Van Valkenburg began working for the county in 2000. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
