Bard early college program in Hudson to expand

Jan 27, 2017 6:45 am

Victoria Addison is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Bard College's Hudson Civic Academy will expand next year. The program allows high school students to enroll tuition-free in college courses that satisfy high school graduation requirements. Students earn college credit for the courses, as well. Launched in September, 12 high school seniors from the Hudson, Ichabod Crane and Germantown school districts are currently enrolled in the program. Michael Sadowski, the director of the early college campus in Hudson, said the academic program is "an intensive introduction to studies in liberal arts and sciences with an emphasis on writing.” Students take two classes per semester, as well as a humanities seminar, he said. The academy will expand next year to include all component school districts within the Questar III BOCES service area, which includes Columbia, Greene and Rensselaer counties. Sadowski said the goal for next year is to double enrollment. High school juniors or seniors can participate. Enrolled students spend a half day at their home high school and the other half at Bard. The Bard in Hudson Civic Academy is the eighth early college program offered by Bard at various locations around the country. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
