Laura Nahmias reports in Politico New York that New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand endorsed or contributed to seven female candidates in Texas congressional primary elections March 6, and two of her candidates won outright, and the other five made run-off elections in May. In one election in Houston, Gillibrand backed a different candidate than New York's other senator, Chuck Schumer, and Gillibrand's candidate got more than 63 percent of the vote to roughly 20 percent for Schumer's choice. Democratic political consultant Hank Sheinkopf explained one reason why Gillibrand might have been so involved in Texas elections. “When you want to run for president, you need lots of friends,” Sheinkopf said. “You don’t need them in your home state, you need them in other states. Her job, if she wants to become president, is to keep picking up friends in states where there are high delegate numbers.” Read the full story in Politico New York.
