Work to replace local toll booths has already begun
Sep 27, 2019 12:18 am
The New York State Thruway Authority announced earlier this week they are moving to a complete cashless toll system at the end of 2020. So construction on gantries – bridge-like overhead structures that will replace toll booths – will be happening for the next two years. The authority has a map of the construction. Work just started at Exit 21B in Coxsackie, and at Exit 22 near Selkirk, and should be complete in January. Construction at Exit 21 in Catskill will take place next summer, May through August. Exit 20 in Saugerties will start in October and be complete in March, if the construction schedule holds. The New York State Bridge Authority is expected to implement a toll hike on all Hudson River crossings next year, but the amount of the increase is still unknown.
