The Mighty Wurlitzer: Films From Another Hollywood
Nick Pinkerton talks to Hudson resident Rudy Wurlitzer in The Village Voice this week. The New York City weekly paper profiles the writer as a series of his films ("Drop Edges of Yonder: The Films of Rudy Wurlitzer") are shown April 29 through May 5 at Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan. Wurlitzer gets the star treatment in Hudson first tonight, April 28, at the show for the release of his audio book "Slow Fade" by Drag City. Will Oldham will read Wurlitzer's book at the Basilica Hudson, near the train station in Hudson. Other performances tonight come from Ben Chasny, of Six Organs of Admittance, and Elisa Ambrogio, of noise rock band Magik Markers, who will open the evening with her own reading. Wurlitzer’s partner, photographer Lynn Davis, will project images on the walls during the Wurlizter reading. Melissa Auf Der Maur from Basilica Hudson will be a guest on the WGXC Afternoon Show with Shannekia McIntosh Thursday between 4 and 7 p.m. before the show. Read the entire story in The Village Voice.
2 buildings and fewer rooms for Greenport Crossings
John Mason in the Register-Star reports the Greenport Planning Board approved a site plan modification for the Greenport Crossings hotel/retail/entertainment complex Tuesday. The hotel now has 81 rooms instead of 100, and the entertainment center and hotel are now two separate buildings. The hotel will be three-stories or 49-foot tall. The first phase of construction will be for a service station, convenience store, A&W restaurant, and liquor store, which will employ 17 people. The entertainment center includes bowling, laser tag, rock climbing, a kids’ play party room, and a sports bar. Read the whole story in the Register-Star.
O! Baby Consignment Sale
More than 20,000 gently-used children’s items including clothing, books, furniture, and other equipment is on sale this weekend at the Columbia County Fairgrounds, Route 66, Chatham. A portion of sales benefits local charities. The event runs Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
