Katie Kocijanski is reporting in The Daily Mail the Hudson River Skywalk is closer to reality. Earlier this month the Greene County Department of Planning and Economic Development received a $124,000 grant to support the project. Greene County, the Thomas Cole National Historic Site, the Olana State Historic Site, the New York State Bridge Authority and the village of Catskill are partnering on the project. It will allow for the design and construction of pedestrian improvements for the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Cole site Executive Director Betsy Jacks said the idea came out of an economic development tourism action plan. “They had planned to establish a series of trails and routes connecting different places in the county,” Jacks said. The skywalk will provide visual access to the Hudson River and strengthen the connection with Olana, the village's historic center and its waterfront, as well as the Cole House, Jacks said. Sean Sawyer, president of the Olana Partnership said the walkway will allow for more recreational use of both sides of the river. “The network of pedestrian and bike access trails for the city of Hudson and village of Catskill would also be improved,” he said.
