Chiral Proscenium
Chiral Proscenium is an architectural addition to the Wave Farm property which exists in proximity to the former site of "Forest Stage," a small platform for off-the-grid performance (2005-2020). The work has been scaled to the size of two existing trees and set directly into the earth. Here it demarcates space for continued action and interpretation by Wave Farm residents and visitors. An iteration of Chiral Proscenium was previously exhibited in 2019, where it was installed with the intent that it would not be used for performance during the run of the exhibition. Its dimensions were determined by plotting the limits of the gallery horizontally from the left interior wall to the right and vertically from the floor to the wall's molding. As a skeletal framing of a proscenium arch stripped of walls and curtains, and without performative action, the work segmented the gallery into two interchangeable sections. Post exhibition, the work was dismantled, stored, and left to age in anticipation for performative use in the year 2023. Installed at Wave Farm, September 2023, Chiral Proscenium's next phase is realized.
Chiral Proscenium is made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature through a Support for Artists Grant, fiscally sponsored by Wave Farm.
