Nov 14, 2013 7:33 am
Jim Planck reports in The Daily Mail the long-awaited reopening of Woodstock Ave. in Palenville happened quietly and without fanfare Fri., Nov. 8, as guard rails were installed and construction barriers removed, allowing traffic to once again flow directly from Route 32A to the south side of the hamlet. The road was severely damaged by the waters of Kaaterskill Creek during Tropical Storm Irene in Aug., 2011. The repair project involved the town of Catskill, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The final cost is expected to be just under $900,000. Catskill Supervisor Joseph Leggio said Saturday that he and fellow board members are pleased to at last have the road open again. He said final items such as the fencing still remain to be done. Leggio also indicated there may be interest from local businesses to sponsor some plantings. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
