Coeymans continues to court controversy

Feb 12, 2016 2:15 pm
Lauren Stanforth in The Albany Times-Union reports that former Coeymans Supervisor Stephen Flach put himself on a 2016 staff list for a job in the town highway department after losing a re-election attempt, and after a troubling state comptroller's report about the town's finances. On Jan. 1 the town's new Democratic majority eliminated the $19-an-hour job that Flach, a Republican, wanted, and also two other jobs Flach had designated for former employees of the southern Albany County town. Instead, new Supervisor Philip Crandall put in a hiring freeze after the December comptroller's report. Flach's term was marked by other controversies including Planning Board members who resigned because they claimed they were being pressured to approve a transformer processing facility, and Flach being investigated, and cleared, by the town police chief for releasing information that allegedly gave the owner of the Port of Coeymans a leg up to win a town bid.
