Hochul halts New York business transactions with Russia

Feb 28, 2022 2:03 pm

Darrell Camp reports for New York Now that Gov. Kathy Hochul signed an executive order Feb. 27 to halt business transactions between New York state and Russia. That moves comes four days after Russian invaded Ukraine. “Russia and Putin have engaged in an unjustified and unprovoked attack on the sovereign nation of the Ukraine," the executive order from Hochul states. Hochul said the office of the state comptroller is also reviewing current state investments, to see if any are beneficial to Russia. “These are our fellow brothers and sisters. We worship with them, we go to restaurants with them, we celebrate their cultural festivals. They’re an important part of the fabric of New York State,” Hochul said. “So an attack on their country is truly an attack on all of us.” President Joe Biden has also levied sanctions against Russia since the invasion, Last week Hochul announced the newly-formed Joint Security Operations Center would monitor the possibility of Russian cyber-attacks on New York.
