Continuing our celebration of composer birthdays, this week it’s time to “Handel” the greatness that was Georg Friedrich, an immigrant to Britain from Halle, Germany, born on February 23, 1685. Maestro Handel not only brought astonishing musical proficiency and a fecund theatrical imagination to the Baroque period, but also canny showmanship and an intensity that still resonates 250-plus years after his death.
