Mar 02, 2020 12:43 am
Stephen Williams reports for the Daily Gazette that Republican Richard Amedure is trying to take over Republican state Sen. George Amedore 46th Senate District seat. Incumbent Amedore, from Rotterdam, declined to run for reelection this year. Amedure, from Rensselaerville is running instead. He's never held office higher than the Rensselaerville Planning Board, and is now running for a seat that represents all or parts of Montgomery, Schenectady, Albany, Greene, and Ulster counties. Amedure is a veteran, retired state trooper, and small farm owner. So far, two Democrats are running for the same seat. Michelle Hinchey of Saugherties, the daughter of the late congressman Maurice Hinchey; and Gary Greenberg an activist from New Baltimore will face off in a primary election later this year. Amedure is already railing against the opposition. "I will always be a voice against downstate interests and decisions that negatively impact our way of life," he said.
