State bar association offers free help with unemployment benefits
Apr 28, 2020 1:15 pm
Steve Hughes is reporting for the Times Union the state court system and the New York State Bar Association are creating a process to help workers trying to secure unemployment benefits and appealing claims that are denied. The website, NYSBA [dot] org, offers resources for filing a claim and matches pro bono attorneys with anyone who has had a claim denied. The system was created to help relieve the strain on the existing network of pro bono attorneys and public defenders. Nearly 1.5 million state residents have filed unemployment claims since the coronavirus pandemic began. The pro bono network will also later help residents to address other legal issues related to the pandemic, including evictions, domestic violence and job or housing discrimination.
