Vote on Kaaterskill request tabled

Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Catskill Town Board last week tabled a vote on The Kaaterskill inn's request to modify a special use permit after the wedding venue failed to provide sufficient information to support its request. The High Falls Road inn has been hosting weddings illegally since 2010, and must now acquire the permit to continue doing so, legitimately. A special use permit was issued in February with a set of conditions, including one that required all music and amplified sound cease at 9 p.m. The owner requested the planning board modify the conditions to allow the weddings booked for 2019 to have music until 10 p.m., claiming that three of the 10 weddings already booked canceled due to the change. Planning Board Chairman Joseph Izzo said The Kaaterskill was asked to submit to the board the signature dates for the contracts. The board proceeded with a public hearing on the modification April 23. “No residents came to speak but we did receive two letters from residents wanting us to keep it at 9 p.m.,” Izzo said.
