Germantown awarded $75K to develop LWRP

Jan 02, 2020 12:30 pm
The town of Germantown December 31, announced the New York Department of State has awarded the town $75.000 to develop a Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. Once approved, an LWRP gives more power to a municipality to control the fate of its riverfront. The town's first Waterfront Advisory Committee conducted a revitalization study and made suggestions based on the input it received from the public. During that process, residents requested access to the Hudson River, a plan be formulated to address the invasive water chestnut problem and the reopening of established swimming areas, according to a press release. A new waterfront committee is now being constituted and it will also hold public workshops for additional public input, over a two- to three-year period. “This is an exciting time for Germantown,” said Robert Beaury, Germantown town supervisor. “Over the past decade and a half our community has undergone a revitalization of the hamlet. With an approved LWRP on the horizon, our waterfront will receive the attention it needs for economic and recreational growth and vibrancy along the two-and-a half-mile stretch of river that borders our town. I wish to thank our volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make this a reality.” Read more at GermantownNY [dot] org.
